Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Oversight and Reform Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD), and Homeland Security Chairman Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) sent a letter to Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Kevin McAleenan demanding a full explanationregarding the appointment of Ken Cuccinelli to serve as Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Washington, D.C. –Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) delivered the following floor statement in support of H.Res. 430, a resolution authorizing the Committee on the Judiciary to initiate or intervene in judicial proceedings to enforce certain subpoenas and for other purposes:

"Mr. Speaker, when a congressional committee issues a subpoena, compliance is not optional. We expect witnesses to testify when summoned. We expect the Administration to comply with subpoenas and to provide us with the materials we require to do our jobs.

Washington, D.C. –Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) delivered the following opening remarks during the Committee's first hearing on abortion rights in the 116th Congress. The hearing, which took place in the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties, focused on threats to reproductive rights at the state and court level, and how Congress can respond:

"Thank you, Chairman Cohen, for convening this hearing to address the ongoing assault against women's reproductive rights that we are witnessing across the nation.

Next Hearing Will Feature Former Nixon White House Counsel John Dean

The House Judiciary Committee will continue hearings focused on the alleged crimes and other misconduct laid out in Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report. The next hearing entitled "Lessons from the Mueller Report: Presidential Obstruction and Other Crimes" will take place on June 10th. The hearing will feature former White House Counsel John Dean as well as former U.S. Attorneys and legal experts. The Committee also plans to consider targeted legislative, oversight and constitutional remedies designed to respond to these matters.

Washington, D.C. –Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), along with Representatives Ted Deutch (D-FL) and Eric Swalwell (D-CA) of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced the No President Is Above the Law Act, which would pause the statute of limitations for any federal offense committed by a sitting president, whether it was committed before or during the president's term of office. This legislation would ensure that presidents can be held accountable for criminal conduct just like every other American and not use the presidency to avoid legal consequences.
