Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, expanded his investigation into Jared Kushner’s staggering foreign conflicts of interest and corrupt business dealings after Kushner failed to respond to the Committee’s previous demand for records concerning his simultaneous work as a U.S. foreign policy official and a foreign government-funded private investor. The expanded investigation follows explosive reporting that Kushner paid more than $120 million for disputed land in Albania to a suspected gangster and drug trafficker despite being warned that the seller did not own the property, as Kushner pursued a luxury resort project benefiting from extraordinary concessions by the Albanian government.

August 19, 2026 (Washington, D.C.) – House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-MD), House Oversight Committee Ranking Member Robert Garcia (D-CA), and House Homeland Security Committee Ranking Member Bennie Thompson (D-MS), along with Northern Virginia Representatives Don Beyer (D-VA), Suhas Subramanyam (D-VA), and James Walkinshaw (D-VA), today opened an investigation into an August 10 encounter in Falls Church, Virginia, during which a masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent pointed a gun directly at Carolina Molina, a U.S. citizen and Northern Virginia resident, without justification. The lawmakers sought answers and a full investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and review by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Civil Rights Division, and demanded that the ICE agents involved in the encounter be placed on administrative leave pending the conclusion of the investigation and review.

Washington, D.C. (August 12, 2026)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, filed an amicus brief in Maxwell v. Thomas urging the Supreme Court to enforce the bipartisan First Step Act, landmark criminal justice reform legislation aimed at reducing recidivism and preparing eligible incarcerated individuals to reenter society as productive citizens. At the core of this statute was a new system of evidence-based recidivism reduction programs and fixed incentives—including the possibility of early transfer to prerelease custody and supervised release—that Congress directed the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) to provide.
