On February 28, 2019 at 12:00 pm, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, led by Subcommittee Chairman Steve Cohen (D-TN), will hold a hearing on the National Emergencies Act of 1976. The hearing will examine President Donald Trump's recent national emergency declaration at the southern border and other issues relating to the National Emergencies Act. This will be the first congressional hearing on the National Emergencies Act in more than 40 years.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement after House passage of H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019:

"When Democrats gained control of the House we promised the American people that Congress would take steps to reduce gun violence. Today we were able to make good on that promise by passing H.R. 8, legislation to require background checks on all firearm sales. I commend Reps. Mike Thompson and Peter King for their efforts to advance this legislation.

On Thursday, February 28 at 11:30 am, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), House Judiciary Subcommittee Chairs Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA) and David N. Cicilline (D-RI), and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) will announce the introduction of a package of bills to end the use of forced arbitration in consumer, antitrust, employment, and civil rights disputes. The legislation would greatly restore Americans' rights to seek justice through the courts.

Today, the chairs of six committees in the U.S. House of Representatives wrote to Attorney General William Barr to inform him of their expectation that he will make Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report public "without delay and to the maximum extent permitted by law." The letter follows news reports that suggest the Special Counsel investigation is nearing an end.
