Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law Subcommittee Chair David N. Cicilline (D-RI) delivered the following opening statement, as prepared, during a subcommittee hearing on"Online Platforms and Market Power, Part 6: Examining the Dominance of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google":

"More than a year ago, this Subcommittee launched an investigation into digital markets. Our two objectives have been to document competition problems in the digital economy, and to evaluate whether the current antitrust framework is able to properly address them.

Washington, D.C. – On Monday, July 27th at 12:00PM ET, the House Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee will hold a hearing with the CEOs of Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google, who will testify as part of the Committee's ongoing investigation of competition in the digital marketplace. Under current House Rules, witnesses and Members are allowed to appear virtually. Further details regarding hearing format to be announced.

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Antitrust Subcommittee Chairman David N. Cicilline (D-RI), Subcommittee Ranking Member F. James Sensenbrenner (R-WI), Subcommittee Vice Chairman Joe Neguse (D-CO), Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Representative Ken Buck (R-CO), and Representative Matt Gaetz (R-FL) sent a letter to Jeff Bezos, the CEO and Founder of Amazon, calling on him to appear before the Committee to testify about competition concerns relating to Amazon's business practices.

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) introduced H.R. 6061, the State Justice Improvement Act, legislation that will make lasting changes to America's criminal justice system. Across the country, courts often impose fines, fees, and monetary bail without considering an individual's ability to pay – disproportionately impacting low income communities and communities of color. This legislation will provide state and local courts with new and expanded federal funding opportunities to reform these monetary punishment policies. U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. Senate.

"H.R. 5546, the 'Effective Assistance of Counsel in the Digital Era Act,' would require the Federal Bureau of Prisons to establish a system to exempt from monitoring any privileged electronic communications between incarcerated individuals and their attorneys or legal representatives.
