Today, Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler delivered the following opening statement, as prepared, for the House Judiciary Committee Markup of H.R. 8296, The GAO Database Modernization Act:
"Mr. Chairman, the GAO Database Modernization Act would amend the Congressional Review Act to require federal agencies to report to the Government Accountability Office, or GAO, certain information about agency rules that are made ineffective due to an agency action or other reason.
"Mr. Chairman, here we are again marking up a bill that is another attempt by the majority to scapegoat and fearmonger about immigrants. Despite its title, this bill will impact not only those who are undocumented, but also lawful permanent residents, or green card holders.
This bill will do nothing to secure our border or fix our broken immigration system. It does not close any gaps or fix any loopholes in the law. It is purely a messaging bill and an attempt to score cheap political points.
Today, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler and Ranking Member Lou Correa of the Subcommittee on the Administrative State, Regulatory Reform, and Antitrust sent letters to the Attorneys General and chief financial officials of Texas and Florida seeking information about how their states' laws against responsible investing have affected everyday taxpayers and retirees.

"Twenty Million Taxpayer Dollars.
Chairman Jordan, who consistently opposes government spending on everything from feeding children to education and healthcare, has spent $20 million taxpayer dollars this Congress to investigate his various conspiracy theories.
And what exactly has he delivered to the American people on their $20 million investment?
Nothing.
No evidence that the conspiracies are true.
No indictments.
