U.S. Representatives John Conyers, Jr.(D-Mich.), Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Ranking Member on the Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee, delivered the following statement today after a federal district court issued a preliminary injunction against Department of Homeland Security immigration directives issued in November 2014.
Today, during a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law hearing consumer protection and mortgage lending settlements, Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. issued the following opening statement, as prepared for delivery:
"The stated purpose of today's hearing is to determine whether there has been a misuse of mortgage settlement funds by the Administration for its so-called "pet projects."

in Opposition to H.R. 527 the "Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act of 2015"

M. Speaker –
H.R. 527, the "Small Business Regulatory Flexibility Improvements Act" threatens to substantially undermine agencies' ability to effectively regulate areas such as consumer health and product safety, environmental protections, workplace safety, and financial industry misconduct.
Introductory Remarks
Before I begin my opening remarks, I first would like to congratulate our colleague, Tom Marino, on his new role as chairman of the Subcommittee on Regulatory Reform, Commercial and Antitrust Law. I look forward to working with him and hope that he will continue the spirit of collegiality that his predecessor, Spencer Bachus, exemplified during his tenure as chairman of this subcommittee.
