U.S. Representatives John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Ranking Member on the House Judiciary Committee, and Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.), Ranking Member on the Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee, issued the following statement today after news reports indicated the Trump Administration was considering establishing a refugee ceiling of less than 50,000 for the 2018 fiscal year:

This week, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.), Ranking Member John Conyers (D-Mich.), Regulatory Reform and Antitrust Law Subcommittee Chairman Tom Marino (R-Pa.), and Regulatory Reform and Antitrust Law Subcommittee Ranking Member David Cicilline (D-R.I.) sent a letter to the Federal Trade Commission asking it to investigate price gouging in the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.

Today, House Judiciary Committee Republicans doubled down on their neglect of conducting oversight of the Trump Administration by sabotaging a markup of Representatives David Cicilline (RI-01) and Pramila Jayapal's (WA-07) resolution of inquiry that requested the Trump Administration to release information pertaining to the firing of FBI Director James Comey and Attorney General Sessions' involvement in that decision.

ON FRIDAY, September 8^th, Members of the U.S. House of Representatives will hold a forum entitled "Affirmative Action, Inclusion, and Racial Climate on America's Campuses." Amidst national conversations on white supremacy, xenophobia, and racial inequality, reports surfaced suggesting that the Trump Administration has plans to reexamine the values of racial diversity on campuses.

Today, the Chairman of the 49-member Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Congressman Cedric L. Richmond (D-La.), and the co-chairs of the CBC Task Force on Civil and Voting Rights, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) and Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-Ala.), made public a letter sent to the Senate Judiciary Committee strongly opposing the nomination of Eric Dreiband to lead the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice.
