House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) today released a joint statement with Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), on Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General Jeff Sessions' lawsuit against California's sanctuary laws:

Mr. Chairman, as we consider today's narrow topic of class action lawsuits against intermediate care facilities that care for individuals with intellectual disabilities, we must be sure that our focus is always on this key question-how can we ensure that people with mental disabilities receive the best care possible, appropriate to their individual circumstances?

Mr. Chairman, I believe the consideration of the issues underlying this bill is timely, but unfortunately misguided. This Committee should examine pretrial services and bail issues with the goal of reforming our Nation's bail system, not for the purpose of protecting the use of money bail, which is unfair to the indigent, unproductive, and expensive for American taxpayers.

Today, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement in response to Oversight Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte's (R-VA) request for a second special counsel to investigate "decisions made and not made by the Department of Justice and the FBI in 2016 and 2017":

Thank you, Mr. Chairman. In October of 2016, we enacted the "Survivor's Bill of Rights Act," an important law to provide much-needed protections and rights to victims of sexual assault as they both seek to heal and to demand justice.
