"Mr. Chairman, proposals to split up the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals have been floated since, at least, 1941. But what was a bad idea more than 75 years ago still remains a bad idea today.

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, delivered the following opening remarks during a Judiciary Committee markup of H.R. 3487 regarding diversity jurisdiction:

"Mr. Chairman, H.R. 3487 would upend two centuries of a bedrock legal principle so that mostly corporate defendants can more easily remove purely state-law cases to federal court, where they will have numerous advantages over injured consumers, patients, and workers.

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, delivered the following opening remarks during a Judiciary Committee markup of H.R. 6730, the so-called Injunctive Authority Clarification Act:

"Mr. Chairman, H.R. 6730, the so-called 'Injunctive Authority Clarification Act,' should instead be called the 'Injunctive Authority Uncertainty Act' because this bill would inject confusion and needless barriers to relief into the legal system.

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, urged passage of H.R.6758, the SUCCESS Act, during a Judiciary Committee markup. Congressman Nadler is an original cosponsor of the bill which would direct the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and the Small Business Administration to study the underrepresentation of women and minorities among patent holders and recommend legislative solutions for increasing the participation of women and minorities in entrepreneurship activities. The Judiciary Committee passed the bill by voice vote.

Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, delivered the following opening remarks during a Judiciary Committee markup of H.R. 5634, the Medical Cannabis Research Act:

"Mr. Chairman, although H.R. 5634, the 'Medical Cannabis Research Act,' is intended to be a modest, but helpful measure to address certain restrictions on the manufacture of marijuana for research purposes, I must oppose it because it would unfortunately and unjustly expand the collateral consequences of criminal convictions.

Today, House Judiciary Committee Democrats urged their Republican committee colleagues to join them in sending a notice to Chairman Goodlatte to force consideration of H.R. 5476, the Special Counsel Independence and Integrity Act, legislation to protect the Special Counsel investigation.
