Yesterday, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) participated in a forum put on by the Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce, established by Minority Leader Pelosi. Following his participation in the forum, Congressman Conyers issued this statement:

"As gun violence continues to pervade our nation, I commend the Gun Violence Prevention Taskforce for their continued focus on the issue.

On January 22, 1973, the United States Supreme Court delivered its landmark decision in Roe v. Wade, affirming the constitutional protection right of women to determine their own personal health care choices without undue government influence. Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued this statement to mark the historic anniversary:

"40 years ago the Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade affirmed the right of women to make their own healthcare decisions.

In the morning, Congressman Conyers attended an event at the White House, hosted by President Barak Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, at which the President set forth a package of recommendations on gun violence reduction.

Today, John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, joined Rep. Elijah E. Cummings (D-Md.), Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, in filing an amicus brief in the contempt lawsuit brought by House Republicans against Attorney General Eric H. Holder relating to Operation Fast and Furious.

Today, Representative Robert C. "Bobby" Scott (D-Va.), Ranking Member of the Crime Subcommittee of the House Judiciary Committee, and Representative John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.), Ranking Member of the full House Judiciary Committee, led a letter from House members to President Obama requesting that he establish a process for considering appropriate clemency for those in prison who were sentenced prior to enactment of the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 (FSA). The FSA was signed into law by President Obama on August 3, 2010.

Res. 819, "Directing the Attorney General of the United States to transmit to the House of Representatives, not later than 14 days after the date of the adoption of this resolution, any documents and legal memoranda in the Attorney General's possession relating to the practice of targeted killing of United States citizens and targets abroad."
