Press Releases
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) and Ranking Member John Conyers (D-Mich.) issued this statement following the announcement that former Rep. Howard Coble (R-N.C.) passed away on Tuesday evening.
"It is with very heavy hearts that we mark the passing of Howard Coble, a man we were both honored to call a friend. Howard was a true public servant, from his years of military service to his 30 years representing the 6th Congressional District of North Carolina in Congress.
"The growth of the United States economy relies on the expansion of the global digital economy and efficient cross-border data flow.
"According to the U.S. International Trade Commission, digital trade increased U.S. average wages by nearly 5 percent and spurred the creation of about 2.4 million full time positions in 2011. That same year, digital trade also increased our Nation's annual Gross Domestic Product by 4.8 percent.
"As we hear from today's witnesses, I would like for us to consider the following points.

Hearing on:
H.R. 3438, the "Require Evaluation before Implementing Executive Wishlists Act of 2015"
H.R.2631, the "Regulatory Predictability for Business Growth Act of 2015"
Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet
"Mr. Chairman, I oppose H.R. 2834 because of serious concerns that I have about the process by which this legislation comes before us today as well its substance.
"To begin with, the process by which this bill is proceeding to a markup – with only minimal notice and in the absence of collaborative and deliberative bipartisan review – stands in stark contrast with longstanding Committee practice in this area.
"This Committee has a long tradition of considering codification legislation pursuant to a thoroughly inclusive process that often spans multiple congresses.
Washington, D.C. (Oct. 23, 2015)-Today, Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Rep. John Conyers, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statements regarding the Department of Justice's letter finding no evidence that the IRS targeted conservative groups for political reasons.
"Today, we welcome Director James Comey of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for his second appearance before the House Judiciary Committee since taking office on September 4, 2013.
"The FBI's mission is a complex undertaking: to protect the United States from terrorism, to enforce our criminal laws, and to lead the nation's law enforcement community.
"And yet, as vast as this mission seems, I think nearly all of the discussion we will have here today can be distilled into one word: trust.
The House of Representatives today approved the Judicial Redress Act of 2015 (H.R. 1428) by a bipartisan vote of #-#.
