Today, the House Judiciary Committee successfully marked-up H.J.Res. 79, a joint resolution which would clear the path for ratifying the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and enshrine equality for both sexes into the U.S. Constitution. Following the election results in Virginia, which changed the makeup of the state legislature and improved the prospects for Virginia to become the thirty-eighth and final state needed to ratify the amendment, H.J.Res.

On Friday, the Trump Administration released a proposed rule, announcing a 21 percent increase in fees associated with the processing of requests for immigration benefits by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The proposed fee schedule includes-for the first time ever-a fee for asylum applicants who are seeking humanitarian protection in the United States, as well as an 80 percent increase in fees charged to those who wish to become U.S. citizens.
