Washington, D.C. - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) delivered the following remarks on the House floor, as prepared, during debate of the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act:
"Madam Speaker, in 2018, a gunman shot and killed 11 worshippers attending Shabbat services at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. In 2019, another gunman shot and killed 22 shoppers at an El Paso Walmart. Over the weekend, yet another assailant allegedly shot and killed 10 people at a supermarket in Buffalo, New York.
"Two weeks ago, in an unprecedented leak of a draft opinion from the Supreme Court, we learned that-for the first time in its history-the Court may be on the precipice of overturning precedent to take away a constitutional right.

"Thank you, Mr. Chairman, for holding today's important hearing on promoting competition, rebuilding America's economic leadership, and combating corporate profiteering.
"H.R. 7647, the "Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act of 2022," would address the growing and persistent ethics crisis at our nation's highest court.
"H.R. 2992, the "TBI and PTSD Law Enforcement Training Act," is bipartisan legislation that would require the Department of Justice to develop crisis intervention training tools for law enforcement agencies so that they can better equip officers to respond to individuals with traumatic brain injuries and post-traumatic stress disorder.

"H.R. 6943, the "Public Safety Officer Support Act of 2022" is bipartisan legislation that would expand eligibility for the Public Safety Officers' Benefits program to include stress and trauma-related injuries and death by suicide for law enforcement officers and their families.
