Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) delivered the following opening remarks for the first ever hearing on H.R. 5, the Equality Act, which explicitly prohibits discrimination against the LGBTQ community:
"Nearly 50 years after the Stonewall Uprising, there is still no federal law that explicitly prohibits millions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender Americans from being denied medical care, fired from their jobs, or thrown out of their homes simply because of who they are. It is time Congress changes that.
Yesterday, the chairs of six committees in the U.S. House of Representatives wrote to U.S. Attorney General William Barr moving forward on their demand that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's report be made available to Congress together with the underlying evidence. The letter was signed by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Committee on Oversight and Reform Chairman Elijah E. Cummings, Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Chairman Adam B.
On April 3, 2019 at 9 a.m., the House Judiciary Committee will markup a resolution to authorize subpoenas for Special Counsel Mueller's full and complete report, its underlying evidence and related matters.
This markup will provide the Committee an opportunity to vote on authorizing the issuance of subpoenas. The timing of the issuance will be left to the discretion of Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY).
Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement in response to a letter he received from Attorney General William Barr:
"As I informed the Attorney General earlier this week, Congress requires the full and complete Mueller report, without redactions, as well as access to the underlying evidence, by April 2. That deadline still stands.
