Ranking Member Raskin Rebukes President Trump’s Calls for Executing Six Members of Congress

November 20, 2025

Washington, D.C. (November 20, 2025)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s calls for the execution of six Members of Congress:

“Earlier today President Donald Trump called for the execution of Members of Congress who served our nation with distinction in the Navy, Air Force, Army, and intelligence agencies. These colleagues were exercising their free speech rights under the First Amendment and the Speech or Debate Clause of the Constitution by expressing their belief that members of our Armed Forces and Intelligence Community must refuse to carry out unlawful orders. President Trump responded by lashing out, calling the Members’ comments ‘SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!’, reposted calls to ‘HANG THEM’ and others calling them ‘Domestic terrorist[s]’ who should be charged with sedition,’ referred to them as ‘TRAITORS,’ and urged someone to ‘LOCK THEM UP.’

“The President’s statements are an intolerable threat to the safety of these Members of Congress and their families and, it should go without saying, have no place in our democracy. He will be accountable for any violence perpetrated against these Members unless he immediately withdraws and renounces his statements.

“These calls for violence are an assault on the independence, dignity, and safety of the legislative branch of government. Speaker Johnson must immediately denounce these reckless statements.”
