Ranking Member Raskin Calls Foul on FIFA President Infantino for Trump Bribery and Corruption Scheme

Washington, D.C. (July 27, 2026)—Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, wrote to Gianni Infantino, President of FIFA, launching an investigation into mounting evidence of corruption and a potential quid pro quo between FIFA and the Trump Administration. The investigation examines a sustained campaign by FIFA to secure special favors from President Trump—including the dismissal of high-profile corruption cases involving hundreds of millions of dollars related to FIFA—all while gouging American consumers for exorbitant prices during the World Cup.

“The most recent quid pro quo that FIFA and President Trump orchestrated is not a victimless crime. It hurts Americans. FIFA has taken its newfound favored status in the Trump Administration as a sign that it may rip off its consumers, most notably, by employing illegal price gouging and fraudulent sales tactics for the World Cup,” wrote Ranking Member Raskin.

Since Infantino’s election, FIFA has dismantled key ethics guardrails, sidelined ethics and oversight bodies, and pursued an aggressive campaign to curry favor with Donald Trump, including through outright bribery. In exchange for leasing an office in Trump Tower at inflated costs for limited use and inventing a bogus “peace prize” for the President, the Trump Administration abandoned anti-corruption enforcement and allowed FIFA to operate as a multinational criminal enterprise with impunity.

FIFA’s history of corruption is well-documented. The DOJ previously uncovered a sprawling, decades-long bribery scheme involving defendants from more than 20 countries, who exchanged over $200 million in bribes and kickbacks over 24 years in return for lucrative media rights to international soccer matches. Yet after securing convictions in two of these cases—upheld unanimously on appeal—the Trump DOJ abruptly dropped the prosecutions, allowing convicted defendants to walk free. 

That impunity has come at the expense of American soccer fans. FIFA has imposed extreme and unlawful ticketing practices for the World Cup, including price surges from a promised $1,550 cap to nearly $33,000 per seat, widespread use of dynamic pricing, and the ability to downgrade ticket holders to worse seats after purchase. These tactics have triggered state-level investigations while Trump’s Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Trade Commission have looked the other way.

Ranking Member Raskin is demanding documents and communications from FIFA related to any gifts, payments, or benefits provided to Trump and his associates, as well as records concerning FIFA’s ticketing practices and contacts with U.S. officials. He is further demanding the visitor logs for FIFA’s gratuitous, largely vacant office space in Trump Tower. The Committee is also requesting Infantino’s appearance for a transcribed interview.
