Ranking Member Jamie Raskin’s Statement on DOJ Whistleblower Disclosure
Washington, D.C. (June 24, 2025)—Today, Rep. Jamie Raskin, Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, released the following statement after the Committee received the protected whistleblower disclosure of Erez Reuveni, formerly the Acting Deputy Director of the Office of Immigration Litigation of the Department of Justice (DOJ), on efforts by officials at the highest levels of Trump’s DOJ to defy court orders on the Alien Enemies Act:
“Mr. Reuveni has provided a highly credible insider’s account of a plan at the highest levels of Trump’s DOJ to mislead judges and defy court orders as the Administration rushed to sweep people off the street and disappear them to a torture prison in El Salvador.
“Emil Bove, the Deputy Attorney General and Trump’s former criminal defense attorney, who is now under Senate consideration for a federal judgeship, told DOJ attorneys to make false and misleading statements to federal judges. He made clear he would not let federal judges or federal law interfere with the Administration’s plans to ship people to a foreign dictator’s torture prison—including even potentially by saying ‘fuck you’ to courts and ‘ignoring any such court orders.’ We also know Bove was personally involved in orchestrating a cover-up of the DOJ’s crooked deal with Mayor Adams and has a track record of firing, harassing, and investigating prosecutors who refuse his unlawful orders.
“Whistleblowers are the first line of defense to hold those in power accountable, and I thank Mr. Reuveni for having the great courage to come forward to expose the lawlessness of Mr. Bove and Trump’s DOJ. The extraordinary nature of the disclosure demands further investigation by Congress, and Judiciary Democrats are committed to getting to the truth on all of the Trump Administration’s efforts to turn the Department of Justice into a gangster state law firm devoted to violating the rights of the people, lying to federal judges, violating court orders, and persecuting those who uphold their oaths and speak the truth. Tomorrow, I urge my colleagues in the Senate to press Mr. Bove for answers at his confirmation hearing and demand he cooperate fully with congressional investigations.”
