Conyers Applauds Appointment of Melanie Roussell as HUD Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs

Washington, DC, April 9, 2013

This afternoon, the Obama administration announced the appointment of Melanie Roussell to the position of Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Following this announcement, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) released this statement:

“I am delighted to learn that Melanie Roussell, my former Communications Director with the House Judiciary Committee, has been appointed to become the next Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at HUD,” said Conyers.

“Melanie was an exemplary staffer and a dedicated public servant. During her time with the Judiciary Committee, Melanie played a critical role as a liaison between the Committee, the public, and the media. Members on both sides of the aisle benefited from her unerring judgment and dedication.

“Following her time with the Committee, she went on to work as the Southern Regional Communications Director for Obama for America, and as the Spokesperson for the Presidential Inaugural Committee. These experiences led her into working within the Obama administration, serving as Press Secretary for the Department of Housing and Urban Development, until August 2011 when she transitioned to working as the National Press Secretary for the Democratic National Committee.

“I am confident that Melanie will serve with distinction as the Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs at HUD, and I wish her well in her new role.”
