ADVISORY: Conyers to Host Forum on the Impact of Budget Proposals on Justice, Job Creation, Public Safety, and Civil Liberties

Washington, DC, February 23, 2011

On Thursday, February 24th, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) will host a forum on the impact that the GOP’s budget proposal – and the looming government shutdown – will have on job creation, public safety, and America’s justice system.  Some of the federal programs that will be critically affected by H.R. 1, the Republican continuing resolution that passed the U.S. House of Representatives last week, are listed here.

Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed an irresponsible and dangerous spending bill, H.R. 1, that will unnecessarily cut jobs, threaten American innovation, undermine public safety and law enforcement, and restrict fundamental civil liberties,” said Conyers.  “We cannot allow Americans’ livelihood, safety, and future be held hostage by these mindless cuts and the unnecessary threat of a government shutdown.”
