Washington, DC, November 7, 2016

Detroit, MI – House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member John Conyers, Jr. (MI-13) today released the following statement on the passing of former United States Attorney General Janet Reno:

“For eight years I worked with Janet Reno and for many more she remained a great friend.  Janet broke barriers as the first woman to serve our nation as U.S. Attorney General. Throughout her career, she served our country with distinction and integrity. Under her leadership, the U.S. Department of Justice implemented landmark legislation such as the Violence Against Women Act, Pattern and Practice legislation, the Motor Voter Act and other important matters. Her work in the U.S. Department of Justice was not only important, but long lasting.”
