WASHINGTON, D.C.—House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) today issued the following statement after the House passed H. Res 12, establishing the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government:
 
“The American people have been clear about what they want from Congress: more solutions to the challenges facing working families and less political charades and partisan score settling. Instead, Kevin McCarthy sold out our democracy to become Speaker by handing Jim Jordan subpoena power and a green light to settle political scores under the phony pretext of rooting out conservative bias. While House Republicans claim to be investigating the weaponization of the federal government, it’s clear this new select subcommittee is the weapon itself. It is specifically designed to inject extremist politics into our justice system and disrupt any criminal investigations they deem as politically inconvenient.

“This reckless partisan exercise fueled by conspiracy theories and driven by the most extreme members of the MAGA caucus is a modern day reincarnation of the House Un-American Activities Committee, which ruined the lives of many people and failed to deliver on its flawed founding premises. Like that ill-fated political charade, this new committee will undermine American democracy and threaten our safety and security. Democrats will fight tooth and nail to prevent Republicans from using taxpayer resources to protect Donald Trump and extremist allies from legal scrutiny.”
