Washington, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Antitrust Subcommittee Chair David N. Cicilline (D-RI) issued the following statement after a healthcare staffing company pleaded guilty and was sentenced yesterday for conspiring with another staffing company not to compete for each other’s nurses and to fix the wages of those nurses, in violation of the Sherman Act:

“We applaud the Justice Department for securing this important victory for workers, enforcing the antitrust laws against an illegal scheme to stifle competition for nurses, and obtaining restitution for the nurses whose wages were suppressed because of the conspiracy.”

“Corporations that conspire to limit the employment opportunities for workers and suppress worker wages block the fair and open competition that is the foundation of this nation’s economy and democracy. They must be held accountable for their actions.”

“That the staffing company in this case would choose to line its pockets at the expense of nurses, who have been on the frontlines of healthcare during the pandemic, is particularly galling. The Justice Department’s successful prosecution is a testament to the Biden-Harris Administration’s strong and unwavering stance against suppression of competition in labor markets.”
