Chairman Nadler Applauds House Passage of the America COMPETES Act
Washington,
February 4, 2022
Washington, D.C. - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 4521, the America COMPETES Act of 2022, a comprehensive package that makes transformational investments to strengthen America’s competitiveness on the global stage:
“The America COMPETES Act is an essential part of House Democrats efforts to build back a stronger economy that works for all, not just the top 1%. The strategic investments in this bill will enhance protections for consumers, promote competition, and improve scientific research and innovation. I’m particularly proud that the SHOP SAFE Act, a bipartisan proposal that combats the sale of harmful counterfeit products online, was included in this package. By removing counterfeits from online marketplaces, American consumers can be confident that what they see is what they will get. “I was also pleased that legislation to help ensure that more women, people of color, and other disadvantaged groups have access to the patent system for their inventions, as well as legislation to ensure that our federal agencies have the resources to properly enforce our antitrust laws were included in the America COMPETES Act. These proposals, both of which are priorities for the Judiciary Committee, will create good jobs and enhance our nation’s competitiveness for generations to come. This package also makes changes to our immigration visa system that will provide more entrepreneurs and STEM graduates with opportunities to improve scientific research and boost our economy. I look forward to working with my colleagues to get this legislation to President Biden’s desk without delay.” |
