Washington, D.C. - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following statement regarding the end of bipartisan police reform negotiations: 

"I am deeply disappointed that GOP Members of the Senate have failed to take action on the urgent need for police reform. Despite months of good-faith negotiations, they have instead chosen to ignore the voices of thousands of Americans who protested peacefully to demand meaningful change. I thank Representative Karen Bass and Senator Cory Booker for all their work on the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act and for exhausting every path possible in their effort to reach a bipartisan agreement. 

"Congress should continue working with the Administration to ensure that accountability measures are put in place to hold police and their departments accountable. Building on existing executive orders, and through rigorous oversight, we can still put workable standards in place to reassure the public that the federal government heard their message about the critical importance of policing reform."
