Nadler & Lofgren Applaud President Biden’s Refugee Admissions Proposal for FY 2022
Washington,
September 20, 2021
Washington, D.C. - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chair Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) issued the following joint statement applauding President Biden’s proposal to set the refugee admissions goal at 125,000 for fiscal year 2022: "We are greatly encouraged by President Biden’s announcement today affirming his commitment to admit up to 125,000 refugees in the coming fiscal year and to rebuild the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. As multiple humanitarian crises continue to unfold around the world, the President’s action could not come at a more important time. "Unfortunately, the Trump Administration decimated the program and in fiscal year 2021, our nation admitted the lowest number of refugees in recent history. We look forward to working with the Biden Administration to restore this life saving program and our reputation as a leader in providing refuge to those fleeing persecution around the globe." |
