Washington, September 10, 2021

Washington, D.C. - Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced the committee print for the Committee markup on Monday, September 13th at 10:00 AM on legislative proposals under the budget reconciliation instructions.

"Next week, the Judiciary Committee will take an important step towards delivering on House Democrats' historic agenda," said Chairman Nadler. "The Judiciary Committee's portion of the Build Back Better Act makes pivotal investments in community-based violence reduction and human infrastructure that reflect our commitment to a stronger U.S. economy and a vibrant future for all Americans. I look forward to taking up this bold, urgently-needed proposal and bringing it one step closer to President Biden's desk."

The Committee's portion of the Build Back Better Act will:

  • Strengthen our economy by investing funds to provide a path to permanent residence for America’s Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status holders, and essential workers ;
  • Invest in American families by restoring the availability of immigrant visas lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic and bureaucratic delay;
  • Support U.S. businesses through investments to improve their ability to attract highly skilled workers, positioning the United States as a global leader in innovation and strengthening our competitive advantage; and
  • Provide $2.5 billion for the Department of Justice to fund evidence-informed strategies to reduce community violence and fund community violence intervention programs that address the cycles of violence in communities, thereby saving taxpayer dollars.
