Chairman Nadler Statement on Nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to Supreme Court

Washington, September 26, 2020

Washington, D.C. – Today, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following statement in response to the President's nomination of Judge Amy Coney Barrett to succeed Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the U.S. Supreme Court:

"Seven months into the COVID-19 pandemic and over 200,000 Americans are dead while thousands more die every day without President Trump taking the urgently necessary steps to save lives. Instead, his top priority is to move at lightning speed to place even more lives at risk by finally destroying the Affordable Care Act relied on by millions of Americans. In nominating Judge Amy Coney Barrett, President Trump is not only trampling on the legacy of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and nominating someone less than 40 days before the election, he is putting the lives of millions in the balance while acting to change life as we know it by challenging the rights of every person in this country."
