Conyers Applauds Selection of Thomas Perez for Secretary of Labor
Washington, DC,
March 18, 2013
Today, President Obama nominated Thomas Perez, the current assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, to the secretary of labor post, following Hilda Solis's retirement. Following this announcement, Congressman John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.) issued the following statement: “I applaud President Obama's nomination of Thomas Perez to become the next Secretary of Labor. "Mr. Perez has served with distinction as the assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, leading the division in combating discrimination and standing up for voting rights. "As secretary of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Mr. Perez was a strong advocate for consumers, working families, and organized labor. I am confident that as the U.S. secretary of labor he will continue to champion these core values, and for this reason I wholeheartedly support his nomination." ### |
