Nadler Statement on Approval of At&T-Time Warner Merger

Washington, DC, June 12, 2018

Today, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement after a federal judge approved an $85 billion merger between AT&T and Time Warner:

“While I was skeptical about President Trump’s seemingly political motivations for opposing the AT&T-Time Warner transaction and remain deeply concerned about potential political interference in antitrust enforcement matters, I am nonetheless disappointed in today’s court decision approving the transaction.  I am deeply concerned that this ruling may invite a wave of consolidation that will fundamentally transform the media and communications industry. This decision could make it extremely difficult for the antitrust agencies to fulfill their congressionally mandated duty to promote competition and prevent mergers that may substantially lessen competition.”
