Today, House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) and Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship Chair Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) released the following statement on the resignation of Secretary of Homeland Security, Kirstjen Nielsen:
"Throughout her tenure as Homeland Security Secretary, Kirstjen Nielsen consistently refused to take responsibility for her actions. From her cruel and un-American family separation policy, which to this day she claims never existed, to her desire to cut off asylum seekers from coming to the United States, it was certainly time for her step down.
"We are concerned, however, by reports that her draconian immigration and border policies were not tough enough for this President. The American people deserve better. The next Secretary must be willing to standup to the President and work with Congress in a bipartisan way to fix our immigration system and help keep our country safe."
