RANKING MEMBER NADLER STATEMENT ON BIDEN ADMINISTRATION'S ANNOUNCEMENT OF TPS FOR VENEZUELANS

Washington, September 21, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee issued the following statement on the Biden administration’s announcement that it will redesignate Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela and make changes to how employment authorization is adjudicated:

“I commend the Biden administration for taking this bold step to redesignate Temporary Protected Status for Venezuela. This is something that I, along with the rest of the New York Delegation have long championed.  This is both the right thing to do morally for those fleeing the Maduro regime and will also provide these individuals with stability and the work authorization they need to contribute to our economy.”

“I was also happy to see the administration is making additional changes to the length of validity for work authorization for many individuals lawfully here in the United States.  This will hopefully increase the speed in which work authorizations are issued and will ease the burden on the Department of Homeland Security.  I look forward to continuing to work with the Biden administration to expand lawful pathways to create a safer and more orderly process at the border.”
