Ranking Member Nadler Statement on Scotus Refusal to Hear Trump Administration Daca Request

Washington, DC, February 26, 2018

Yesterday, House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) released the following statement:

“Today, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the Administration's request to overturn a Ninth Circuit injunction on President Trump's executive order to rescind the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.  The Court's decision prevents the Administration from continuing to threaten the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers who, through no fault of their own, came to this country as children.  At the same time, the decision reaffirms the need for Congress to find a solution that removes the looming uncertainty for DACA recipients.
“Important in the Supreme Court's decision is this: President Trump can no longer hold Dreamers hostage to the extremist policies that prevent a bipartisan solution from being worked out.  It is these negotiating tactics that have prevented the progress that both Democrats and Republicans want to see on this issue.  Congress should take this opportunity to find a legislative solution that the overwhelming majority of Americans support – allowing Dreamers to remain in this country, with a pathway to citizenship, so that they can continue their tremendous contributions to our schools, workplaces, and communities.”
